The griffin, griffon or gryphon (from Old French
grifon) is a legendary creature with the body of a
lion and the head and wings of an eagle. As the
lion was traditionally considered the king of the
beasts and the eagle the king of the birds, the
griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic
creature. In antiquity it was a symbol of divine power and a
guardian of the divine.
Griffins have been known for centuries as symbols of strength and vigilance, and have been called "The Hounds of Zeus". In some mythologies, they represent the wealth of the sun. Or they are said to have hordes of fabulous treasure, which they guard endlessly. According to Greek mythology Griffins are thought to be native to eastern Asia. They would find gold in the mountains and build nests for their young. When townspeople attempted to steal the gold from the nest, the Griffin would repel them and protect the nest. We salute their mission to protect wealth and assets.
